Inspiring the Next Generation of Mining Professionals at Carmichael

People & Culture | Nov 11, 2025

MacKellar Group recently had the pleasure of welcoming Katija Wregg, a Year 12 student from St Patrick’s College, Townsville, to Bravus Mining & Resources’ Carmichael mine, where MacKellar delivers open-pit mining operations.

Katija’s visit was made possible after her father, Michael Wregg, one of our Training Coordinators at Carmichael, reached out to help her explore potential career pathways within the mining industry. Supporting opportunities like this is an important part of MacKellar’s commitment to developing future talent.

Over four days on site, Katija gained valuable first-hand exposure to a wide range of disciplines, including:

  • Production and Maintenance
  • Wash Plant Operations
  • Health, Safety and Training
  • Mining Engineering
  • Surveying

The experience highlighted just how diverse and technically advanced modern mining operations have become. Katija was particularly inspired by the field of surveying, discovering how critical it is to safe, efficient and accurate mining outcomes.

Programs like structured site visits and student exposure initiatives play an important role in helping young people understand the breadth of career opportunities available in mining beyond traditional operator roles.

MacKellar is proud to support learning opportunities that help students make informed decisions about their futures — and we look forward to seeing where Katija’s journey takes her next.
